All Northern California Ski Resorts Now Closed Due to the Coronavirus

Mammoth Mountain

It’s been a busy 24 hours for the ski industry in Northern California. It began with Vail Resorts and Alterra Mountain Management announced the closure of their combined six ski resorts in the Tahoe and Mammoth area due to the Coronavirus. More closures were announced late-Saturday, leaving only three Tahoe resorts open.

Now, those remaining resorts have closed due to the virus, leaving people wondering what they will do with their lives as many NorCal businesses and schools have now closed.

While Mt. Shasta Ski Park and Mt. Rose announced they will close for the season, the rest of the resorts are vague about their reopenings. Vail Resorts have only committed to closures until March 22, while Alterra have said their closures are “indefinite.” Sierra-at-Tahoe is committed to closing for just 72 hours. Here’s a list of the closures in NorCal:

Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows (closed indefinitely)

Northstar Mountain Resort (closed until March 22)

Heavenly Mountain Resort (closed until March 22)

Kirkwood Mountain (closed until March 22)

Mammoth Mountain (closed indefinitely)

June Mountain (closed indefinitely)

Mt. Shasta Ski Park (Closed for the season)

Sierra-at-Tahoe (Suspended for at least 72 hours)

Diamond Peak (Closed until March 20)

Homewood (Closed indefinitely)

Mt. Rose (Closed for the season)

Sugar Bowl (Closed indefinitely)

Tahoe Donner (Closed indefinitely)

Boreal (Closed indefinitely)

Dodge Ridge (Closed indefinitely)

While the advancement of the Coronavirus in Northern California is unknown, some officials believe these closures could last months. Could this be the end of ski season in NorCal?
