Art of Survival Century Bike Event to Highlight the Beauty, History of Far NorCal & Southern Oregon
Sitting in the upper corner of Northern California and stretching into the southernmost region of Oregon is a tight-nit community, one that is highlighted by its stunning beauty and fascinating history. One event is highlighting this region through a series of bike rides and it’s a can’t miss opportunity for outdoor adventurers during Memorial Day Weekend.
The Art of Survival Century bike event will take place in Tulelake and Dorris, California, as well as Malin, Oregon on May 28-30, with over 200 bikers competing in eight different routes through the areas surrounding the Lava Beds National Monument. The event takes place through three counties and two states, benefitting five local non-profits. It serves as a way to explore the great outdoors and history of the area, along with supporting the local communities.

“It’s a ride, not a race,” said Linda Woodley, one of the organizers of the event. “It’s a great weekend getaway where you can explore the lava caves and learn history during the full event. The history of the area is very important to us.”
Riders from all over the west coast will converge on the NorCal/Southern Oregon, with the main events being the 100-mile Art of Survival Century road race and the 74-mile Grit + Gravel. The event will begin on Friday, May 28 from 4-6:30 pm where riders can come by and have refreshments in Malin at the Broadway Theater. The two days of rides will include 50 volunteers working to feed, inform and hydrate the riders.
During their off time, riders are encouraged to visit the stunning areas of Tulelake and Lava Beds National Monument to learn about the history of the area, which includes thousands of years of Native American occupation and the development of the Applegate Trail.

Century (100 mile), Metric Century (59 mile), 38 mile, 22 mile mountain bike route and a 14 mile family friendly route.
All routes pass through the Lava Beds National Monument, which has an unparalleled volcanic landscape with towering cinder cones, expansive black lava flows and more than 700 lava tube caves. The park also has a rich cultural history, containing thousands of petroglyphs and pictographs, as well as the major battlefields of the Modoc Indian War. Explore the wonderful communities of Merrill, Malin and the fringes of Klamath Falls, Oregon and Tulelake, California

Grave routes are based out of Dorris, CA
74 Miles (42% gravel)
54 Miles (35% gravel)
13 Mile Family Route (50% gravel)
FANTASTIC gravel riding options on the roads less traveled. Routes of 74 mile, 54 mile and 13 mile family friendly.
Ride along the flat lands, by the Butte Valley wildlife area and up to lovely Juanita Lake. Continue through the scenic valley with majestic views of Mt. Shasta all along the way. Pass by several historic sites and agricultural farms and ranches.
