Bass Fisherman Nets Record Day on Shasta Lake

When the Wild West Bass Trail Pro/Am came to Shasta Lake for a 3-day fishing tournament, bass fisherman Alex Niapas of Angels Camp had high hopes. Following the final day of the tournament, he held a record number of bass weight for the weekend.

Niapas netted a competition best 20.92 pound weight limit on the bass on day one, before exploding with a 30.22 pound weight limit on day two, including a 13.58 pound bass. His second day take was the largest take ever in a WWBT Pro-Am. He ended up winning the tournament with 62.95 pounds of bass.

Although Niapas wouldn’t divulge his true Shasta Lake fishing strategy publicly, he said he was focusing on rockpiles and trees in 15-30 feet water with 3-4 feet visibility. He was mostly fishing the Squaw and Pit Arms of the lake. For his historic weekend, he won $20,000.
