Bull Escapes Redding Rodeo, Striking Six People Near the Sundial Bridge

A bull jumped over the fence at the Redding Rodeo on Friday night, running over to the area of the Sundial Bridge and striking six people, with one woman needing to be transported to the hospital for injuries.

Just before 10 pm, the bull escaped its confines and confronted visitors of the Sundial Bridge along the Sacramento River Trail. According to witnesses, cowboys were seen chasing after the animal and were eventually able to wrangle it with ropes before it was able to injure anyone else. One woman was seen being transported to the hospital on a stretcher after being hit by the bull.

Video by Robert Innes shows the moment the bull hopped the fence:

“We wish the best to all those affected,” wrote Redding Rodeo officials in a statement. “The safety of our fans is our highest priority and we appreciate their support.”

The incident put a damper on one of Redding’s most anticipated events every year. The weeklong event typically brings $8-$10 million in tourism revenue for the Redding area each year.
