Celebrate National Farmers Week with These 10 Markets in Shasta County

Brought to you by Healthy Shasta

As the 2019 National Farmers Market Week gets off and running, it got me thinking about how few things there are left in this world that are true “win-win” scenarios. Most things in our day to day life require some sort of compromise like time or money, but shopping at a local farmers market isn’t one. By shopping at a local farmers market you will not only get fresher and better tasting seasonal produce, but also support local farmers and the local economy.

There are a total of nine different weekly farmers markets in Shasta County, five of which are deemed Certified Farmers Markets by the Agricultural Commissioner. Operated by the Shasta Grower’s Association (SGA), these Certified Farmers Markets are held to the standard that producers can only sell their own fruits and vegetables directly to consumers. This means all the food options available at these locations are to be hyper-local, seasonal, and often local organic.

Buy local, eat healthy and better tasting produce, all while paying little to no difference in price. Thanks to Healthy Shasta for reminding us that buying from local farmers’ markets is a true “win win” for everyone.

The farmers market this time of year is 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 Look at that colour! 🍅My plan was to come home and get my hands in the dirt to start off our home garden 👩‍🌾 – I can’t wait to grooooow things again in this new house. BUT guys it’s so smoky here today, so we’re shut up inside not venturing out into the haze to save our lungs 😉 No digging for me today, I’m shopping for seeds instead!! 🌱 Who else has a garden, or a single pot even?! What are you guys planting?! Or if you never have before – what could you start?! It’s one of the easiest ways to see money on your food bills, even if it’s just a herb pot! 🌿
