Growing Sky Fire Prompts Evacuation Warning in Butte County

Another lightning-caused wildfire is growing in Northern California, forcing some residents of Butte County to be on evacuation alert.

The Sky Fire in the Lassen National Forest grew to approximately 100 acres by Sunday evening near Philbrook Lake in Butte County. Due to the growing wildfire and fears of dry fuel conditions in the area, the Butte County Sheriff issued an evacuation warning for the Philbrook Lake and Snag Lake areas. The residents of those areas should be prepared to evacuate if the conditions worsen.

“In cooperation with CAL FIRE and Butte County Sheriff’s Office, this joint effort is remarkable and requires the public to pay attention to potential evacuations in the area,” said Deputy Chief Dustan Mueller.

The evacuation warning was prompted by the fire’s accelerated movement Sunday evening, growing from 7 acres to 75-100 acres in just a 4-hour span.

There’s an abundance of resources on this fire, including Air Tankers, Helicopters, Bull Dozers, Fire Engines, Hand Crews, and Water Tenders. Extremely rough terrain and extreme weather conditions are hindering containment status.
