High Winds Brings Ocean-Like Waves to Lake Tahoe

It was a bustling day at Lake Tahoe yesterday, with high winds coming off the mountains and creating a dangerous scene on the lake for visitors.

The winds became so dangerous, in fact, that the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office had to respond to multiple calls of paddle boarders getting blown out to the middle of the lake. While wind isn’t particularly rare for the lake sitting at 6,224 feet in elevation, winds with such veracity aren’t something you see everyday.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office posted a video of one of their excursions on the lake, showing ocean-like waves created by the winds. The video explains why people may have had trouble controlling their paddle boards in the wind.
