Lassen Volcanic National Park Closes All Access Due to Coronavirus

Following another round of closures for outdoor destinations in Northern California due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Lassen Volcanic National Park has announced that it is temporarily closing all access to the park.

“The health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, and partners is our number one priority,” the park said in a statement.

The closure comes as many California State Parks have prohibited vehicle access, and Yosemite National Park closed it’s gates entirely. With the number of outdoor areas in NorCal now closed due to the Coronavirus outbreak and subsequent shelter-in-place mandate, it looks like there isn’t much opportunity to practice social distancing in the great outdoors.

Here is the full statement from Lassen Volcanic National Park:

Lassen Volcanic National Park is announcing additional modifications to operations in response to guidance from California Department of Public Health. The health and safety of our visitors, employees, volunteers, and partners is our number one priority. The National Park Service (NPS) is working servicewide with federal, state, and local authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic.

Effective immediately, Lassen Volcanic National Park will be closed to all park visitors until further notice. We will notify the public when we resume full operations and provide updates on our website (www.nps.gov/lavo) and social media channels. Park rangers remain on duty protecting the parks, and normal rules and regulations continue to apply.

The NPS encourages people to take advantage of the many digital tools already available to explore Lassen Volcanic National Park. Visitors are encouraged to learn about park resources and stories through the many multimedia presentations, webcams, and photo galleries currently available on the park website.

Updates about NPS operations will be posted on www.nps.gov/coronavirus.
