Late-Season Storm Bringing Snow, Rain and Thunderstorms to Northern California
Following the third driest precipitation year in California’s recorded history, late season storms are a very welcoming sight in Northern California. Thankfully, a storm has arrived in the Northern California mountains and it could leave up to two feet of snow before it’s finished.
The storm that arrived Friday is set to last through Monday morning, bringing a foot to 18 inches of snow to Tahoe and the Eastern Sierra, as well as up to two feet in Lassen Volcanic National Park. The snowfall will help some ski resorts stay open a little longer, while providing much needed snowpack in the mountains.
Mountain travel is discouraged during this three day storm, with chain controls expected in the Tahoe Area, including US 50 and Interstate 80 near Tahoe.
The storm is also bringing much-needed rain to the valley, with places like Redding, Chico and Eureka receiving up to an inch. Grass Valley is expected to see up to 2 inches.
This storm could also bring some spring thunderstorms to the valley on Sunday afternoon, possibly bringing hail, heavy downpours and possibly even a small tornado.
This storm is a welcomed sight for NorCal, which is entering another significant drought in 2021. Keep rain dancing!
