Mandatory Evacuations Ordered for Junction City Due to Monument Fire

As the Monument Fire continues to grow in Trinity County, the sheriff has announced a mandatory evacuation order for the area of Sky Ranch Road in Junction City. The evacuation was ordered around 6 pm on Sunday, August 15.

The Monument Fire has grown to 82,435 acres burned in the remote stretch of Trinity County along the Trinity River, with just 7 percent containment. The fire has already burned portions of Big Bar, California, including the beloved Trinity River Rafting company.

Officials are currently concerned about the winds in the region, which could help grow the flames into more populated regions of Junction City, a town with a population of over 650 people. Fire officials are preparing for the worst Sunday night, evacuating the area and keeping a close eye on wind patterns coming in from the southwest. They expect fire lines to be tested through the night.

We will continue to update the situation as more information is made available.
