At about two feet taller than the average steer and weighing in at 2,300 pounds, Daniel was the Andre the Giant of the cow world.

A dairy cow named Daniel in Humboldt, considered to be the tallest in the world, has died. The announcement was made on Facebook by the feed company that cared for him, Lost Coast Hay.

At about two feet taller than the average steer and weighing in at 2,300 pounds, Daniel was the Andre the Giant of the cow world.

Daniel became world famous for his larger than life physical attributes. Standing at 6 foot 4 inches tall, he was considered the tallest cow in the world. He lived most of his life at the Sequoia Park Zoo, but he spent the last few years at Lost Coast Hay after zoo officials said it was too expensive to take care of him. Daniel ate 100 pounds of hay and 15 pounds of grain a day. He also produced 150 pounds of manure a day.

Here is the message Lost Coast Hay gave on their Facebook page:

“We at Lost Coast Hay are heartbroken to pass on the news that Danniel the Steer passed away this morning.. He was a beloved member of our family and the community, and he will be missed more than words can describe. We would like to thank everyone who came out to help him this past week. The Firefighters, the Vets, the Ranchers and just everyone who gave their time and love to him. Our gratitude and thankfulness for all of you is immense. We will be doing some kind of memorial for him and will pass on that information to everyone when we have it.”

Daniel was about 8 years old at the time of his death.
