Ron Howard’s Highly-Anticipated Camp Fire Documentary to Premiere Online this Weekend

The long-anticipated documentary from Ron Howard on the Camp Fire can finally seen by Northern California locals this week as the film premieres to the public online.

In 2018, the Camp Fire ravaged through the town of Paradise on its way to becoming the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California’s history. While Netflix released its documentary “Fire in Paradise” in November 2019, locals have waited to see Howard’s version, which covers the aftermath of the fire more in depth.

The film, dubbed “Rebuilding Paradise,” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, but the physical screening that was originally planned for Paradise locals at the Paradise Performing Arts Center was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Eight Paradise residents, all of which were interviewed for the film, travelled to Park City, Utah in January to see the documentary for the first time at the Sundance Film Festival. Now, it’s available for all to see.

The online premieres will take place Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14 at 2 pm and 5 pm. You can RSVP for the screening here. Find more information on the film here.

Here is a description of the film from the Sundance Film Festival:

Early in the morning of November 8, 2018, a spark flies into the parched brush of the Sierra Nevada foothills. With little warning, flames are everywhere. Fierce diablo winds shower burning embers as house after house becomes a violent inferno. Propane tanks explode as desperate citizens grab their most precious possessions and jump into their vehicles hoping to escape.

With unfathomable, harrowing footage, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ron Howard pulls the viewer into the driver’s seat to experience the terror and the helplessness of devastated refugees from a town with the ironic name of Paradise. Eighty-five lives are lost in what ultimately becomes the most destructive wildfire in California’s history.

Over the course of a year, survivors from Paradise cope with shared trauma, displacement, and uncertainty about the future. Yet slowly, with sheer grit and determination, they begin to rebuild their lives and redefine the meaning of home. Rebuilding Paradise is a testament to the power of the human spirit from one of our most gifted filmmakers.
