Snowy Conditions Bring Chain Controls to the Sierra

The unseasonable May storm has arrived in Northern California and it’s creating winter travel conditions in the Sierra Nevada mountains. With snow prevalent throughout the Tahoe area, chain controls are currently in place along Interstate 80 and Highway 50.

Current chain controls include Twin Bridges to Myers on Highway 50 and Nyack to Donner Lake on Interstate 80. Expect delays and winter driving conditions if you have to travel in the area.

While the storm was only supposed to bring up to a foot of snow to the Tahoe area, it seems like that may be a low number. Snow continues to fall and the roads look like it’s the middle of December:

The storm in expected to peak on Monday with thunderstorms across NorCal. We’ll continue to provide updates as it progresses.
