Snowy Weather Brings Chain Controls to Northern California Mountains

The first storm of the winter season has arrived in Northern California, bringing with it plenty of snowfall and hazardous driving conditions in the mountains. From Lassen Volcanic National Park to Tahoe to the Eastern Sierra, chain controls have been prevalent in high elevation areas.

As of Sunday morning, chains are required on the busy highways around Tahoe, with chains required on highways 50, 80 and 88. Here are some current views of the roadways in that area:

Highway 50 at Twin Bridges

Meanwhile near Lassen, highways 44 and 89 both have chain controls with a heavy does of snow hitting the area on Saturday. The Lassen Volcanic Highway is currently closed to traffic in the park. Here are some of the photos of that area:

Great news from the first storm of the season! The wet weather is expected to subside on Sunday, but it brought good winter vibes and some much needed water to NorCal. Safe driving!
