Tahoe Ski Resort Extends Season Until Memorial Day with 7 Feet of New Snow

Tahoe ski resorts were met with the pleasant surprise of a series of wet storms blanketing the region with fresh snow. Some ski resorts still closed (or briefly reopened) after the snowfall, but the most legendary resort in North Lake Tahoe is now using it to extend its ski season until Memorial Day.

Palisades Tahoe received 86 inches of snow in May – more snow than was seen in all of November, January, February and March combined. With that snow, they have announced they will extend their season until May 30, with weekend operations bringing themed weekends and spring skiing.

Lift and Terrain Updates

The Palisades Tahoe team will be working hard to keep as much terrain open for as long as possible this season. Here are a few updates on expected operations for some of our lifts and terrain, though operations may shift due to conditions. Lifts and terrain that have closed for the season will not reopen. 

• Guests will still be able to ski to the base area via Mountain Run through May 1, but that trail may not make it to the following weekend, at which point all guests will need to download the Funitel or Aerial Tram to get off the mountain.
• Granite Chief and Siberia will likely remain on schedule through May 8, but Siberia Ridge is losing snow quickly.
• Belmont Terrain Park will remain open through May 1. Gold Coast Terrain Park will remain open as long as possible, and new medium-size features will be added soon.
• Reverse Traverse is currently open, but KT-22 chairlift and terrain are closed.
• The Alpine side of the resort and all lower mountain lifts on the Palisades side (with the exception of Wa She Shu) are closed for the season, and will not reopen.
• Lifts will be open from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. for now, but hours may shift to 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. if there is significant snowmelt again.

Theme Weekends

Celebrate the extended spring skiing by wearing a creative costume while you ski and ride. Theme weekends are as follows:

• April 30-May 1: Denim – Carve it up in Canadian tuxedos
• May 6-8: Wig out on the Wiggle! – Wear your favorite wig while you ski down one of the many wiggle tracks on the mountain
• May 13-15: Rodeo – No better way to say summer is here than with cowboy hats and cutoffs
• May 20-22: Surf’s Up – Pop on your board trunks and bikinis to surf the slush
• May 27-30: U-S-A! – Break out the red, white and blue for a patriotic Memorial Day Weekend

Made in Tahoe Festival Returns May 28 & 29

The annual Made in Tahoe Festival returns Memorial Day Weekend to The Village at Palisades Tahoe, for a jam-packed weekend of artisans, workshops, live music and performances that celebrate all things local. The weekend features local artisans, businesses, chefs, organizations and entertainers that are based in or inspired by the Lake Tahoe Basin and Truckee areas. Guests can discover and explore Tahoe’s rich community of talented creators, while enjoying a variety of local food and beer. The Made in Tahoe Festival will be held May 28-29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, and admission is free. For more information, visit their website.
