Tahoe Ski Resort Set to Reopen After 3 Feet of New Snow

After a mostly dry winter season from January through March, many ski resorts in Northern California were forced to close in early April with limited snow on the slopes. Now, April has seen more snow than all of those months combined, and one Tahoe ski resort is using the new snow to reopen to the public.

Donner Ski Ranch, located near Donner Summit, was bombarded with phone calls this week asking if they would reopen with the epic spring snowfall. They gave the people what they wanted and announced they would reopen this weekend for a limited powder-filled April ski adventure.

“After answering HUNDREDS of phone calls from y’all today, our GM Diamond Joe Quinn says we are reopening DSR this Saturday and Sunday,” wrote the ski resort on social media.

The resort will run chairs 1, 2 and 4 from 9 am to 4 pm over the weekend for people pining for one last powder day on the ski season. Other resorts that have closed for the season have not indicated they would follow suit, likely due to the immense amount of temporary staffing that would be needed for such a move. But the snow is certainly there if they wanted to.

Are you going to enjoy one last powder day for the ski season? Thank goodness for April showers!
