Trail Cam Footage Shows Wildlife Fleeing the Flames of the Glass Fire

The flames of the Glass Fire burned through the Wine Country in the months of September and October, blazing 67,000 acres and destroying an astonishing 1,555 structures in the area. While the impact of the fire on the human residents in the area can’t be understated, wildlife also needed to flee the wildfire that burned through their homes.

Trail cam footage from Sugarloaf Ridge State Park show the wildlife move out of the area as the fire consumed 75 percent of the park. The video (above) also shows the sounds of a tree falling to the ground, causing a bit commotion.

The Glass Fire was fully contained on October 20 and Sugar Loaf partially reopened on October 23. The campgrounds, visitor center, and the Canyon, Meadow, Hillside and Nature trails are once again accessible to visitors.

While the flames of the Glass Fire have been extinguished, the impact of the devastating fire on the Napa Valley will be felt for many years.
