What Month is It?! Snow Forecast for Northern California Mountains this Weekend
Although summer just officially ended on September 23rd, it’s beginning to feel like winter in Northern California. We’ve already seen a couple of rare mid-September snowstorms and there’s another on the way that’s forecast to hit the NorCal mountains with a fresh coat of snow.
The National Weather Service has predicted snowfall for the Sierra Nevada mountains in the Lassen, Tahoe and Mammoth regions from Saturday through Monday. The brunt of the snow will be seen in Lassen Volcanic National Park, which could receive up to 8 inches:
As with any storm in the mountains, officials are warning against dangerous driving conditions and possibly even chain controls at pass levels:
If traveling to the mountains this weekend, make sure to allow for extra travel time, slow down & check road conditions before you go. https://t.co/if6ShiTCCf #cawx pic.twitter.com/hBNzaOADWi

As previously noted, this will be the third snowstorm to hit the region this month. On September 10th, the pass leading up to Mount Rose was hit with the first sign of snow on the season. Then, not even a week later, snowfall was seen all over NorCal including Tahoe, Mount Shasta, Mammoth and Lassen.
It seems as if the snow is coming early this year. Are we looking at another epic winter? We’ll have to wait to find out.
