Dixie Fire Grows into Lassen Volcanic National Park, Closing the Entire Park

The Dixie Fire continues to blaze through communities in rural Northern California and force thousands of residents to evacuate their homes. Now, the fire has entered the east side of Lassen Volcanic National Park, closing the popular park until further notice.

“The Dixie Fire is currently is active on the east side of the park,” said NPS officials in a statement. “The entire park is closed to all uses to allow for firefighter access.”

On Wednesday, the fire ballooned to 322,502 acres, burning nearly the entire town of Greenville to the ground in the process. The fire has forced the full evacuation of Chester, as well as other communities near Lake Almanor.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect throughout NorCal into Thursday night, with growing concern of the flames destroying more structures in the area. We will continue to update the situation as more information is made available.
