Popular Outdoor Destination in NorCal Closes Due to Dangerous Behavior by Visitors

Upper Lake Clementine in Auburn State Recreation Area will remain closed due to ongoing dangerous behavior by visitors, California State Parks announced.

The initial closure was announced on July 14 after park officials witnessed hazardous driving and pedestrian behavior along Foresthill Road. Incidents included illegal parking along the roadway, drivers making illegal U-turns in traffic, and pedestrians crossing on blind turns.

To address these safety concerns, State Parks will continue working with Placer County and other local authorities to find solutions. The area is expected to reopen on weekends by July 27, with new policies and procedures in place to enhance safety.

Starting July 27, Upper Lake Clementine will require reservations for day use on weekends and holidays. Weekdays will remain first come, first served. For more information on the reservation system, call 530-885-4527 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
