One Tahoe Mountain Is Reopening This Weekend for More Skiing

In what has been a tough winter for Tahoe snow lovers, Heavenly Mountain Resort is offering one more reason to lace up the boots.

The South Lake Tahoe ski area is reopening its lifts this weekend following a stretch of late-season storms that deposited fresh snow on upper elevations across the basin. The timing is a welcome surprise for anyone who wrote off the season after months of below-average snowfall and reduced terrain operations at resorts throughout the region.

Conditions won’t mirror the deep powder days of a strong winter, but spring skiing at Heavenly has its own appeal. Warm temperatures, soft afternoon snow, and the kind of laid-back atmosphere that marks the tail end of a season can make for a genuinely enjoyable day on the mountain, even when the snowpack has been humbling overall.

For families and casual skiers who didn’t get as many days on snow this year as they hoped, this weekend is a legitimate second chance. Heavenly’s location straddling the California-Nevada border gives it some of the most dramatic views in the Tahoe Basin, and those don’t diminish regardless of what the snowpack numbers look like.

It’s also worth noting that this may be one of the last windows to ski at Tahoe before the resorts close out for the season entirely. If you’ve been on the fence about one more trip up the mountain, the forecast is looking cooperative and the lifts will be running.

Check Heavenly’s website for current lift and terrain status before heading up.
