Sand Harbor’s Boat Launch at Tahoe Is Open, But the Docks Are Gone

Sand Harbor State Park at Lake Tahoe has opened its boat launch for the 2026 season, but boaters should know it is not business as usual.
Nevada State Parks announced that the boat ramp is operational, however the docks are not. Storm damage during the winter and spring destroyed the dock structures, and they have not been replaced for the current season. That means boaters will need to launch and retrieve their watercraft without the assistance of a dock, which can be tricky depending on conditions and boat size.
Sand Harbor is one of the most popular boat launch points on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, and the dock situation could create some congestion at the ramp, especially on busy weekends. If you are not comfortable launching without a dock, other options on the lake include Cave Rock on the Nevada side and various launch points on the California side.

Lake Tahoe is sitting at strong water levels heading into the summer, which means ramp conditions should be good even without the dock infrastructure. But higher water also contributed to the storm damage that took the docks out in the first place.
If you are planning a boating day at Sand Harbor, arrive early and be prepared to wait. Pack patience along with your gear, and keep in mind that the park fills up fast during peak hours regardless of launch conditions.
