5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks the Sierra Nevada

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit the Sierra Nevada at 3:49 pm on Thursday, sending shockwaves throughout Northern California.

The floor of the Active NorCal office in Sacramento began shaking heavily during the event, having us wonder where it could have originated. The epicenter occurred in the eastern Sierra Nevada near the town of Walker, with shaking felt all the way to the Bay Area.

Then, just seconds later, a 4.8 magnitude shook Stockton. There have been multiple 3.0 magnitude tremors being felt in the area in the 30 minutes since. There are currently no reports of injuries or damage from the quakes.

On social media, people are claiming to have felt the shaking for miles in every direction including Tahoe, Sacramento, San Jose and Modesto.

This is a developing story.
