Avalanche at Mammoth Mountain Injures Ski Patrollers, Closes Mountain

A Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol team was caught in an avalanche late this morning while conducting avalanche mitigation work on Lincoln Mountain. The incident followed a powerful Sierra snowstorm that dumped six feet of snow in just 36 hours.
The avalanche occurred around 11:30 a.m., trapping two patrollers. One was successfully extracted and is responsive, while the other suffered serious injuries and was transported to Mammoth Hospital for treatment.
At the time of the slide, the area was closed to the public for safety measures. Following the incident, Mammoth Mountain shut down all lift operations and closed the entire resort at 12:00 p.m.
Mammoth Mountain officials have not provided further updates on the condition of the injured ski patroller.
