Controlled Burns Set to Begin Across the Shasta-Trinity National Forest

Fire crews with the U.S. Forest Service are preparing to launch a series of prescribed burns across the Shasta-Trinity National Forest starting Sunday, November 2. The burns will continue through Friday, November 14, as long as weather conditions remain favorable.

The controlled fires are part of an ongoing effort to reduce overgrown vegetation that fuels wildfires, protecting nearby communities, infrastructure, and wildlife habitat.

Six separate burn operations are planned across multiple ranger districts:

  • Ridgeville Pile Rx, Weaverville Ranger District – 238 acres (Nov. 2–14)
  • McBride Under Burn, Mt. Shasta Ranger District – 100 acres (Nov. 3)
  • I-5 (Bailey Cove) Rx, Shasta Lake Ranger District – 55 acres (Nov. 3)
  • Kellogg Pile Rx, Hayfork Ranger District – 450 acres (Nov. 4–6)
  • Lower McCloud Pile Rx, McCloud Ranger District – 100 acres (Nov. 3–7)
  • I-5 (Skyline) Pile Rx, Shasta Lake Ranger District – 290 acres (Nov. 4–7)

Some forest areas may be temporarily closed during operations for public safety, and warning signs will be posted along nearby roads. Residents should expect to see and smell smoke in the area. Drivers encountering smoke are advised to slow down and use headlights.

Each burn will only proceed after careful evaluation of weather and fuel conditions. If conditions are not suitable, operations may be delayed or canceled.

Updates will be available through the Shasta-Trinity National Forest’s website, social media pages, and InciWeb.
