Crystal Cave at Sequoia National Park Is Open Again and Tickets Are on Sale Now

One of California’s most spectacular underground experiences is gearing up for another season. Crystal Cave at Sequoia National Park opens to the public on May 22, running through November 1, weather permitting. After being closed for four years, the cave reopened in 2025 to rave reviews, and the 2026 season is expected to be just as popular.

Tucked beneath the giant sequoias, Crystal Cave features a half-mile guided loop through marble passageways filled with shimmering formations, underground waterfalls, fairy pools, and the sound of running water echoing off the walls. And yes, you’ll see cave bacon, a wavy, striped rock formation that looks exactly like what it sounds like.

Tickets are on sale now through the Sequoia Parks Conservancy and must be reserved in advance. They are not available at the cave entrance. Adult tickets run $22 and children’s tickets are $11. Tours tend to sell out quickly, so booking early is the move. Park entry fees are separate.

Getting there takes a bit of effort. The cave trailhead is about a 45-minute drive from the Foothills Entrance, followed by a quarter-mile hike that’s downhill on the way in and uphill on the way back. Vehicles over 22 feet and towed trailers are not permitted on the cave road.

A few things to keep in mind before heading underground. The cave stays around 50 degrees year-round, so bring a jacket even if it’s scorching outside. Wear sturdy shoes (no flip-flops allowed on the tour), and leave food, drinks, gum, backpacks, and large bags behind. There are some tight spots along the route, so travel light.

It’s a rare chance to explore what’s hiding beneath some of the biggest trees on Earth. Don’t sleep on this one.
