The 31st Annual Cushing Crossing pond-skimming event, widely recognized as the premier event of the spring season, is set to return on May 20 at 1 pm at Palisades Tahoe, weather permitting. This announcement comes after an unanticipated delay due to the slower melting of Cushing Pond, caused by a record 714 inches of snowfall this year.

The Cushing Crossing invites thrill-seekers to ski or snowboard across a pond of icy water, dressed in their most outrageous costumes. The event promises not just daring exploits, but also a day of fun, laughter, and unexpected tumbles.

Those attending can also anticipate a judging panel comprising local celebrities, top-notch emcees, and an awards ceremony immediately after the event. Winners in different categories stand a chance to win prizes from sponsors such as Yeti, Smith, Phunkshun Wear, Dakine, and Darn Tough. The overall champion will bag the 2023/2024 Ikon Base Pass, a GoPro Hero 11, and a cash prize of $500. The event will also feature live music from DJ Funksalot at the KT Base Bar following the awards presentation.

“We’re ecstatic to bring back the Cushing Crossing event for its 31st year,” expressed Kristen Costa, Senior Manager of Events & Sponsorships. “It’s consistently a highlight of our spring season and offers a fantastic opportunity for our community to celebrate the conclusion of winter in a fun and unique fashion.”

To participate, registration begins at 7 am on the event day at Wildflour, with a $20 cash-only fee. Spectators can enjoy free admission and are encouraged to wear their silliest costumes.
