Falling Tree Kills Australian Hiker in Yosemite National Park

A tragic accident occurred at Yosemite National Park last week when a 22-year-old Australian hiker, Harry Partington, was killed by a falling tree while on the Four Mile Trail. The incident happened on October 8 around 2:30 p.m., according to park officials.

Partington was hiking the strenuous trail, which stretches from Yosemite Valley to Glacier Point, when the tree fell and crushed him. Another hiker, a woman from Germany who was not with Partington, was also injured in the incident. Her condition remains unknown, but she was airlifted from the scene for medical treatment.

The Four Mile Trail is a challenging 9.6-mile round-trip hike that is known for its steep terrain. It is typically open from May until November or December, when snow accumulation makes the trail dangerous.

Yosemite officials noted that there were strong wind gusts on the day of the accident, which likely contributed to the falling tree. They reminded park visitors to always be aware of their surroundings, especially in windy conditions when falling trees and branches are a common hazard.

This tragic event follows another recent fatality at Yosemite, where a hiker was found dead last month near Ostrander Lake after being reported missing.
