Forest Service Announces the Reopening of Campsites Shasta-Trinity National Forest

The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is increasing access to the public by opening additional developed recreational areas, including many of the camping and picnic sites. The areas have been closed since California’s shelter-in-place mandate issued in March, and are set to open just in time for the unofficial beginning of summer – Memorial Day weekend.

The sites will open to the public on Saturday, May 16th, although the forest service still encourages people to recreate locally. Here is a list of all the sites that are reopening to the public:

Whenever possible, please recreate locally. Visitors should practice self-sufficiency when visiting national forests and come prepared with all the essentials needed for your trip, including food, emergency supplies, and the ability to pack-out trash. Remember to recreate responsibly by keeping the following in mind:

• Maintaining at least six feet distancing from others

• Do not gather in groups other than those in your household and please follow the latest guidance from officials.

• Communicate with others as you pass. Alert trail users of your presence and step aside to let others pass

• Pack out your trash and leave with everything you bring in and use.

We encourage visitors to check our website and social media pages for the most up-to-date information on what is open so that you can plan your visit. You can also call your local ranger station during normal business hours Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
