Forest Service Issues Closures on Mount Shasta Due to Lava Fire

The U.S. Forest Service has issued a list of closures on Mount Shasta due to the growing Lava Fire in the area. The current closures include:

  • Bunny Flat
  • Sand Flat
  • Red Fir Flat
  • McBride Springs
  • Everett Memorial Highway closed at McBride Springs

The Lava Fire continues to grow in Siskiyou County as it reached 17,591 acres Wednesday morning with just 19 percent containment. It is unclear if the fire has moved up the hills on the northwest side of Mount Shasta, but the closure announcements indicate it could reach the upper mountain.

There are currently 10,000 people evacuated in Siskiyou County due to the Lava and Tenant fires. We will continue to update the situation as more information is made available.
