Here’s How Tahoe Skiers Can Skip Parking Chaos This Winter

Tahoe skiers frustrated by packed resort lots have a much easier option this season. TART’s winter Park & Ride program is back, offering expanded shuttle service to Palisades Tahoe, Northstar California, and Sugar Bowl—and it’s designed to drastically cut down on traffic and parking chaos on busy ski days.
Beginning December 13, free weekend shuttles will run regularly from designated Park & Ride lots in Tahoe City and Truckee to Palisades and Northstar. Weekday access remains available through TART’s standard bus routes. Over on Donner Summit, the Sugar Bowl shuttle launches December 8, completing five loops daily and offering a crucial new connection for both skiers and local residents.
The program is funded by Placer County and Nevada County tourism dollars along with support from Palisades Tahoe and Northstar, and managed by the Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association.
“This program is an important step toward reducing congestion and cutting carbon emissions in our busiest corridors,” said TNT/TMA Executive Director Sara Van Siclen.
How to Ride:
- Palisades Tahoe – From Tahoe City or Truckee, weekends only. Shuttles every 15 minutes.
- Northstar – From Truckee, weekends only. Service every hour, with added frequency on select peak weekends.
- Sugar Bowl/Donner Summit – Five daily trips from Cold Stream Road with stops at Donner Lake, Donner Ski Ranch, and Sugar Bowl.
No reservations are required and overnight parking isn’t allowed.
