Interstate 5 Between Yreka and Redding Reopens to Southbound Traffic, Northbound Remains Closed
Here’s a quick update for anyone crazy enough to travel on Interstate 5 between Yreka and Redding today – as of 10:30 am, southbound traffic has reopened. But northbound traffic remains closed and there is no timetable for reopening:

Southbound I-5 is currently open. NB I-5 continues closed with no estimated time for reopening. There is nothing we can say at this point other than our Maintenance forces continue working non-stop as we speak. We'll update on highway reopening.

The situation had become dire this morning in Dunsmuir, where cars were backed up for miles waiting for the popular stretch of freeway to reopen. Here’s video footage from the Sacramento Bee:
