Lake Tahoe Is Gearing Up for Summer. Here’s When Your Favorite Campgrounds and Beaches Open.

Summer at Lake Tahoe is closer than it feels, and the U.S. Forest Service just released its opening schedule for recreation sites across the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.

Sites will roll out gradually through late May and into June, with some already up and running. Here’s what to know before you head up.

  • Camp Richardson Resort and RV Park
  • Zephyr Cove Campground and Resort

May 1-10

  • Round Hill Pines Resort (May 1)
  • Meeks Bay Resort and Campgrounds (May 9)
  • Sandpit OHV Area (May 10)

May 16-17

  • Sawmill Pond Picnic Area (May 16)
  • Mt. Tallac Trailhead (May 17)

May 22-23

  • Blackwood Canyon, Fallen Leaf, Kaspian, Nevada Beach, and William Kent campgrounds (May 22)
  • Baldwin, Nevada, and Pope beaches (May 22)
  • Bayview and Big Meadow trailheads (May 22)
  • Inspiration Point (May 22)
  • Camp Richardson’s Eagle’s Nest and Badger’s Den campgrounds (May 22)
  • Angora Lakes Resort (May 23)
  • Tallac Historic Site (May 23)
  • Eagle Falls Picnic Area and Trailhead (May 23)

Before heading out, keep a few things in mind. Parking, restrooms, and trash service are unavailable until sites officially open, so pack out everything you bring. Pets are prohibited at several designated swim beaches, including Baldwin, Meeks Bay, Nevada, Pope, and Zephyr Cove. Where pets are allowed, leashes are required.
