Tahoe’s Biggest Earth Day Cleanup Events Are Happening This Week on Both Shores

Keep Tahoe Blue’s Earth Day cleanup events were originally scheduled for Earth Day, April 22, but an incoming winter storm forced organizers to push both to later in the week. The good news: they’re still happening, on Thursday, April 23 in Tahoe City and Friday, April 24 on the South Shore.

On Thursday, volunteers can join a litter cleanup in Tahoe City from 2 to 5 p.m., meeting at California 89 restaurant at 170 North Lake Blvd. The following morning, Keep Tahoe Blue’s 11th Annual Earth Day Cleanup takes over the South Shore from 8 a.m. to noon, starting at Azul Latin Kitchen in Heavenly Village.

“In Tahoe, every day is Earth Day. Keep Tahoe Blue’s upcoming cleanups are your chance to show your love for this special place, no matter which side of the Lake you’re on,” said Marilee Movius, Keep Tahoe Blue’s sustainable recreation manager. “Our team and event partners hope you’ll join us on Earth Day to leave Tahoe a little better than you found it.”

Both events are free and open to residents, visitors, and workers of all ages. Walk-ins are welcome, though organizers encourage advance registration at keeptahoeblue.org/events.

Can’t make either event? Keep Tahoe Blue also encourages anyone around the lake to pick up litter on their own and log it through the “That’s Not Natural” survey on the Citizen Science Tahoe app at citizensciencetahoe.org.
