Mandatory Evacuations Announced for Fawn Fire Near Shasta Lake

Following a night of containment efforts on the Fawn Fire near Shasta Lake, the Shasta County Sheriff has announced mandatory evacuations near the fast-moving fire.

Here is the announcement from the Shasta County Sheriff:

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is issuing an mandatory Evacuation ORDER. All roads off of Bear Mountain in both directions between Dry Creek and Old Oregon Trail must evacuate immediately. A temporary collection point for evacuees will be at the Shasta College parking lot. Please take important belongings, medications, and pets with you if possible. Again, this is a mandatory evacuation order.

The Fawn Fire started on the northeast side of Shasta Lake late Wednesday afternoon. The fire quickly grew to 800 acres and is 5% contained, according to CAL FIRE. The steep, dense terrain has made it difficult to contain.

On Wednesday, a woman was arrested in relation to the fire. Firefighters found her dehydrated and in need of medical attention on the fire line. It remains unclear her role in the start of the fire.
