Mt. Shasta Nordic Center Levels Up with New Off-Grid Guest Lodge

The Mt. Shasta Nordic Center just got a major upgrade. Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance has officially opened a brand-new guest services lodge at Far Northern California’s only dedicated cross-country ski area, marking a huge leap forward for the beloved mountain destination.
Sitting on the forested slopes of 14,162-foot Mount Shasta, the Nordic Center has long been known for its peaceful vibe, world-class grooming and community feel. Now, visitors will be welcomed by a modern, off-grid lodge with an industrial exterior and a warm, Danish-inspired interior designed for gathering, warming up and enjoying the quiet magic of the mountain.
It is a dramatic improvement from the old setup of a yurt and porta-potties. The new space offers drinks and snacks, with expanded food service planned for the future. Guests are also invited to bring picnics and relax by the windows between laps on the trails.

The lodge is part of a five-year transformation under a 30-year special-use permit with the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. In just a few seasons, SORA has added a new Pisten Bully groomer, upgraded its rental fleet, installed improved facilities and helped build new trails connected to the expanding Gateway Trail System.
The Mt. Shasta Nordic Center has positioned itself as a peaceful, affordable alternative to the chaos of bigger Tahoe resorts. The drive from the Bay Area is comparable in time but without the gridlock, parking battles or crowds. Instead, visitors find wide-open trails, friendly locals and a small mountain town experience that feels worlds away.
Day passes, rentals, lessons and programs are available now on the Nordic Center’s website. Winter just got a little cozier on Mount Shasta.
