Mt. Shasta Ski Park Announces Tentative Opening Date with Snow in the Forecast

After a slow and snow-starved start to winter, Mt. Shasta Ski Park is eyeing a long-awaited opening day.
In a video update shared this week, Mt. Shasta Ski Park General Manager Brendan Hickey said the resort is tentatively planning to open on Saturday, Dec. 27, pending how incoming storms shape up over the next several days.
“Weather looks super promising,” Hickey said, noting that crews are being brought in and the mountain is preparing for what could be a strong start once conditions allow. An official announcement is expected later this week once the storms fully move through the region.
The potential opening comes after an unusually late start to the winter season in far Northern California, where mild temperatures and limited early snowfall delayed operations across several mountain recreation areas. Now, a series of atmospheric rivers sweeping across the region are delivering widespread rain at lower elevations and much-needed snow in the high country.
Those storms have already boosted reservoir levels across Northern California and are expected to continue dropping snow on Mount Shasta through midweek. If snowfall totals hold, ski park officials are optimistic there will be enough coverage to safely open terrain by the weekend.
While opening plans remain weather-dependent, the update has sparked excitement among local skiers and riders eager to get turns in before the end of December.
“We can’t wait to welcome you up here,” Hickey said.
Visitors are encouraged to monitor Mt. Shasta Ski Park’s official channels for confirmation, road conditions, and operating details ahead of the weekend.
