NorCal Family Sets Out to Drive Around the World in High-Tech Expedition Van

A Sacramento family is about to make history behind the wheel of a luxury off-road van—driving around the world on a bold, globe-spanning expedition that redefines what it means to live on the road.
Denis and Sofia, founders of Tiny Planet, are taking their toddler daughter Amelia on an unprecedented round-the-world drive in one of their company’s custom-built, high-tech Mercedes Sprinter vans. Launching May 10–11 at the Adventure Van Expo in Ventura, the trip will cover over 30,000 miles across three continents—from the American West to the Mongolian Steppe.
Unlike symbolic cross-country road trips, the Tiny Planet expedition is a true global circumnavigation, traveling through deserts, mountain passes, and ancient trade routes like the Silk Road. The family’s mission: to explore and showcase how we might live off-grid, sustainably, and comfortably—no matter what the future holds.

“This journey is not just about adventure,” says Denis. “It’s about exploring the future of living in a world shaped by climate change and unpredictability.”
Their luxury van includes off-grid solar, heated floors, smart home automation, a full kitchen, and even a spa-like shower—proving you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for freedom.
As they travel, the family will document their journey on YouTube and Instagram, highlighting alternative lifestyles, van life insights, and cultural stories from across the globe.
