Palisades Tahoe Delays Opening Day as the Mountain Awaits More Snow

Palisades Tahoe is pressing pause on its planned November 26 opening, announcing that early-season conditions simply are not ready for skiing and snowboarding. Limited snowfall and only brief windows for snowmaking have prevented crews from building the safe, reliable base needed to open the mountain.

Resort officials say teams are on standby and working around the clock, ready to fire up lifts as soon as temperatures drop and storms move in. A new Opening Day has not yet been announced, but an update will be shared as soon as conditions improve.

While the slopes remain closed for now, Thanksgiving week at Palisades Tahoe is still packed with seasonal events and activities.

Visitors can take advantage of the ongoing Shop, Dine & Ski Free promotion through November 26, earning a free lift ticket for every $750 spent in The Village at Palisades Tahoe. The Aerial Tram will be open from November 27–30 for sightseeing, offering some of the best views in the Sierra between 10 a.m. and 4:20 p.m.

On Thanksgiving Day, the Olympic House will host a festive holiday dinner with two seating options. The annual Welcome to Winter Celebration returns on November 29 with live music, family activities and a full kickoff to the holiday season. That same evening, the FORGED Community Reception will honor local athletes, longtime mountain figures and community members who shape the culture of Palisades Tahoe.

Storms are expected to develop in the days ahead, and resort staff say they’ll be ready the moment Mother Nature delivers. For now, the Tahoe community will have to wait a little longer for its first turns of the season.
