Palisades Tahoe Launches Reservation-Based Parking System for the 2023-24 Winter Season

Palisades Tahoe is set to launch a reservation-based parking initiative for the upcoming 2023-24 winter season. The move aims to combat the perennial problem of traffic congestion in the North Lake Tahoe region.

Starting with the 2023-24 season, the new parking program will require advance reservations at Palisades Tahoe and Alpine Meadows on weekends and holidays before 1 p.m. These reservations will encompass a blend of both free and paid parking slots, with no assigned spaces. All mid-week parking will remain free and won’t require a reservation.

“Traffic has been one of the major challenges our entire region has faced for decades,” said Palisades Tahoe’s President and COO, Dee Byrne. “We’ve implemented a variety of communication tools, programs, and systems to try to improve the situation over the years, but the cumulative effect hasn’t produced the type of result needed to make significant change.”

“After careful consideration and research, we’re confident this program will improve the arrival and departure experience, and have a positive impact on the ease with which our entire community gets around during peak periods.”

The parking reservations, both free and paid, are obligatory on specific dates during the winter season, including December, January, February, March, and, subject to demand, April.

Here’s the rundown:

Free Reservations: The majority of parking spaces will be allocated for free reservations. These slots will be available for booking every Tuesday before the upcoming weekend and holiday periods. To accommodate varying schedules, the free reservation inventory will be released in two phases: 50% at 12 p.m. PST and the remaining 50% at 7 p.m. PST.

Paid Reservations: Paid reservations are open to anyone seeking to secure parking well in advance of their visit. Each guest can reserve up to 10 paid parking slots at a time. The inventory for paid parking reservations for the entire winter season will be accessible in the fall, enabling visitors to plan their winter activities well in advance.

Guests can make free or paid parking reservations by creating an account at ParkPalisadesTahoe.com.

In cases where all reservations are fully booked for a particular date, guests are encouraged to explore regional public transportation, Park and Ride options, or carpool with someone who has a parking reservation. For those carpooling with three or more people and holding parking reservations, designated parking spaces closer to the lifts will be available as an added convenience.

This new parking program seeks to enhance the visitor experience at Palisades Tahoe while addressing long-standing traffic congestion issues in the region. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and take advantage of the reservation system to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit during the winter season.
