Reservations Are Now Available to Hike to Fern Canyon in 2024. Here’s How to Get One.

Humboldt’s Fern Canyon has become one of the most popular outdoor destinations in Northern California, with its magnificent 50-foot walls covered in ferns. Due to its growing popularity, hikers will need a permit to see the beautiful destination within the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, and reservations are now available for the 2024 season.

Reservations are now available for visits to Fern Canyon Trailhead and Gold Bluffs Beach Day Use, specifically from May 15th through September 15th. You can secure your reservation here.

If you’re planning to drive to Fern Canyon or spend a day at Gold Bluffs Beach during the specified dates, a reservation is mandatory. However, if you’re already camping within the park or have intentions to explore the park on foot via hiking, you won’t require a reservation.

In response to visitor demand and to ensure a smoother experience for all, there have been some changes to the reservation system this year. There are more “Day Before Reservations” available, so you’ll have to plan your trip in advance.

Ready to embark on your adventure? Head over to the reservation website, where you can find comprehensive information about the reservation process and secure your spot.
