Sacramento Records First-Ever 100-Degree Day in October

Sacramento has just shattered another heat record during an ongoing late-season heatwave that has gripped Northern California. Thursday marked the hottest October day ever recorded in the city, with temperatures soaring to 103 degrees by 3:00 p.m., according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

This breaks the previous October record of 102 degrees, which had been tied on Wednesday and was initially set in 2001.

This heatwave is the latest in a series of record-breaking high temperatures across Northern California, stretching from the Bay Area to the Valley. The NWS has been tracking Sacramento’s weather since 1877, making Thursday’s sweltering heat a significant moment in the city’s climate history.

Northern California residents should continue to take precautions against the heat, especially during this unseasonably warm spell. Stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and check in on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
