Short Documentary Explains the Removal of the Klamath River Dams

The removal of the Klamath River Dams is currently underway, leaving many people watching California’s current water issues and wondering why. It only makes sense to wonder why we would remove dams when California has water serious storage issues?

The fact of the matter is the Klamath Dams don’t provide much water storage. They were built more than 100 years ago as a source of power for the region. But today, it costs nearly as much to operate the dams as the power received. The dams have also proved to be catastrophic to the river’s ecosystem, particularly the once legendary salmon runs.

But don’t let us tell you. Check out the above short documentary that provides some great insight into the removal of the dams, including the importance of the project for the local Yurok Tribe.
