Significant Road Closures Occurring in Lassen Volcanic NP this Week

Lassen Volcanic National Park has issued a travel warning for people intending to visit the park this week. A scheduled road construction project is happening at Sulphur Works this week that will cause traffic delays and road closures.

This week, the construction project will initiate at 8:00 am, and during this time, the road through Sulphur Works will be temporarily closed to all traffic. There will be a brief reopening window from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. However, it will close once more from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. These intermittent closures are essential for the safety of construction crews and the well-being of park visitors.

The construction is helping fix the road at Sulphur Works, which collapsed this winter during intense snowfall:

For backpackers who have plans to explore the park during this period, the park service strongly advises thorough planning. It’s crucial to time your arrival carefully by coordinating your park entry and exit to align with the specified road closure hours. In order to enter the park with ease. It might be better to enter through the north end of the park, or early in the morning.
