Snowfall Totals in the Sierra are STAGGERING as the Storm Continues to Deliver

If you’ve glanced at a snow stake photo this week, you already know — the Sierra is getting absolutely dumped on.
Resorts up and down the range are reporting massive 24-hour totals as a powerful winter storm continues to unload across California. Mammoth Mountain has picked up between 27 and nearly 40 inches of new snow. Boreal Mountain reported 30 inches, while Sugar Bowl logged 27. Nearby, Sierra at Tahoe saw 26 inches, Kirkwood 21, and Palisades Tahoe 18.
Around the Tahoe Basin, Northstar reported 15 inches, Heavenly 10, and Homewood 21. Over the state line, Mt. Rose measured 16–20 inches, and Diamond Peak 13.
The upside? Deep mid-February powder days.
The downside? Delays, closures, and rising avalanche danger. Some resorts, including Mammoth and Boreal, temporarily paused operations Tuesday as crews worked through intense snowfall and high winds.
Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for much of the Sierra, with forecasts calling for up to four feet of snow at higher elevations and wind gusts that could approach 100 mph. Whiteout conditions and dangerous travel are expected to continue through Wednesday.
If you’re heading for the mountains, check your resort’s latest updates, monitor avalanche forecasts, and prepare for slow travel. The snow is stacking up fast — and it’s not done yet.
