Tahoe Ski Resorts Announce Opening Following Delay

Heavenly Mountain Resort and Northstar California Resort have revealed their official opening days for the 2023-24 ski season after experiencing a delay due to unseasonably warm weather. Heavenly Mountain Resort opened today (Tuesday, November 21), while Northstar California Resort will welcome skiers and snowboarders on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23.

Originally, both resorts had planned to kick off the season last Friday, but the warm weather conditions posed challenges for snowmaking operations.

With cooler temperatures now prevailing and favorable conditions for snowmaking, the resorts’ dedicated snowmaking teams have successfully produced enough snow to meet the required threshold for opening. Although the initial terrain available on opening day will be limited, the resorts prioritize providing as much terrain as possible while ensuring safety.

Vail Resorts, the company who owns the ski resorts, expressed optimism that Mother Nature would continue to bring cold temperatures and snow to facilitate a successful season. Kirkwood (also a Vail resort) remains on track to open as originally scheduled on December 1, 2023.
