The Mount Shasta Fish Hatchery Is Hosting Free Kids Fishing Days This Summer

Two summer dates are now on the calendar for one of Northern California’s most beloved youth fishing traditions.
The Mount Shasta Fish Hatchery will host Kids Fishing Day on June 27 and July 25, giving children two chances to reel in trout at one of the region’s most scenic outdoor settings. Both events run on Saturdays and are open to kids 15 and under.
The hatchery’s settling ponds will be stocked with trout ahead of each event, and everything needed to get started is provided on-site. Bait is included, loaner tackle will be available in limited quantities, and volunteers will be there to help young anglers throughout the day.

There’s no cost to attend, and registration happens the same day at the hatchery. Families should plan to bring a cooler or bucket to take fish home, and kids will need to be able to hold a rod and reel independently.
It’s a low-barrier, high-reward outdoor experience in the shadow of Mount Shasta, perfect for first-timers and seasoned young anglers alike.
