The Nation’s Largest National Park Cleanup Returns to Yosemite this Month

Yosemite National Park is getting ready for its biggest volunteer event of the year. From September 24–28, 2025, the Yosemite Climbing Association (YCA) and the National Park Service will host the annual Yosemite Facelift, the largest cleanup effort of any national park in the country.
Launched in 2004 by climber and YCA founder Ken Yager, Facelift began as a grassroots push to tidy up climbing areas and build trust between climbers and rangers. Two decades later, it has grown into a nationally recognized model of stewardship, inspiring similar events across the U.S.
Over five days, volunteers will spread across Yosemite Valley and beyond to pick up litter, restore trails, and protect fragile habitats. Since the program started, more than 1 million pounds of trash have been removed from the park.
But Facelift is more than just a cleanup. Evenings bring films, guest speakers, and community gatherings that celebrate the park’s history and its future. Organizers say the event fosters a culture of care, connecting people to the land and to each other.
Anyone can participate—climbers, families, locals, or first-time visitors. Tools are provided; volunteers just need to bring energy and love for Yosemite.
