Trail Down to Burney Falls Reopens Following 9-Month Construction Closure

The Falls Loop Trail at McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park, which had been closed since April 2024 due to a major renovation project, is now officially open. The $835,000 aimed to repair and enhance trail areas that had been heavily impacted by foot traffic and erosion around the iconic Burney Falls.
Visitors can now fully access the Falls Loop Trail and Burney Creek Trail, providing up-close views of the stunning falls and pool areas. This marks the completion of a long-awaited project that initially faced delays, with work previously expected to extend into 2025.

The reopening of the trails restores one of the park’s most popular attractions, complementing the many other amenities available, including the Rim and Pioneer campgrounds, Burney Falls General Store, Marina, Visitor Center, and other day-use facilities.
For those looking to explore beyond the falls, alternative trails like the Rim Trail, PSEA Trail, Headwaters Trail, and Pioneer Cemetery Trail remain accessible. Fisherman’s Bridge also continues to offer access to areas within the park, including the Pacific Crest Trail and Headwaters Equestrian Camp.
Visitors should still plan for possible traffic delays near the park entrance due to an ongoing Caltrans Highway 89 rehabilitation project. However, with the Falls Loop Trail reopened, there’s never been a better time to experience the breathtaking beauty of Burney Falls.
