Viral Video Captures Bobcat Hunt in Yosemite—With Oblivious Tourists Glued to Their Phones

A remarkable video of a bobcat hunting in Yosemite National Park has gone viral, but not just for the impressive display of nature in action. Instead, much of the online discussion has focused on two unsuspecting visitors who were glued to their phones and completely unaware of the wild predator just feet away.

The footage, originally posted to the r/nationalparks subreddit, shows the bobcat calmly walking along a boardwalk before leaping into the grass to catch its prey. Meanwhile, the two visitors behind the bobcat remain fixated on their screens, seemingly oblivious to their surroundings.

Many commenters expressed frustration over the tourists’ lack of awareness.

“I’ll never understand why these types of people even go to national parks,” one user wrote. Another added, “Every time I see something like this, it reminds me to put my phone away.”

The National Park Service urges visitors to stay at least 25 yards from wildlife and 100 yards from large predators. Respecting these boundaries ensures the safety of both animals and people. As habitat loss and human encroachment increase, awareness and responsible park behavior are more important than ever.
